The Brighton Mermaid by Dorothy Koomson- book review by Liza from books.books.books

Late one night, teenagers Nell and Jude, sneek out to attend a party. On the way back home they discover the body of a young woman lying on the beach. They are interrogated by the police and their families are called in. The murdered woman has no identification on her and no one comes forward to claim her. The newspapers start calling her the Brighton Mermaid due to the mermaid tattoo on her wrist.
Jude starts obsessing and wears clothes similar to that which the Brighton Mermaid was wearing on the evening of her death with lots of bangles, like the Mermaid. Then three weeks later Jude disappears. Detective John Pope, the detective in charge of the Brighton Mermaid murder investigation, arrives unannounced at all hours of the day and night at Nell’s house insinuating that her father might have a part to play in the disappearance of her best friend.
Twenty five years later, and with the advances in DNA testing, Nell is still trying to find out what happened to her friend and who the Brighton Mermaid really was. Just as Nell seems to be making headway – dangerous things start to happen to her and someone seems to be watching her every move. An exciting and thrilling read.
